The First Baptist Church Food Pantry is a group of volunteers who are dedicated and privileged to show God's love by helping to feed those in need in the community. They come together every Monday morning to distribute groceries donated by agencies, the community and members to ease some of the financial burden of struggling families. They humbly strive to be the hands of Christ as they reach out to those less fortunate. We pray that those giving allow those receiving a glimpse of the love Christ has for them.
Each Monday we see approximately 900 households come through the pantry, serving approximately 2, 339 individuals.. We also have home delivery bags that are filled to take to shut-ins and elderly people who cannot get to the church. Volunteers deliver these bags.
A meeting of the volunteers is held at about 7:00 am to discuss annoucements, bring prayer requests and pray. This is followed by a devotional period for those who wish to attend. All clients are registered to sign in and if they want to pick up food for someone who is unable to come in, the person wanting the food must sign a proxy and send it in with the person picking up the food.
Volunteers work throughout the week checking food supply, going to get food, unloading food and preparing for the next distribution. There is a need for dedicated volunteers to assist during the week with unloading, sorting and storing foods.
In addition to food and money, they could also use volunteers to assist in manning the lines on Monday morning. Just show up at 7:45 am and they will find a job for you.
Money donations are appreciated and may be left at the church office. They have had gardeners bring in their excess crops for distribution and it is always greatly appreciated. We thank everyone who has donated to the Food Pantry and for all the volunteers who have spent many hours a year in making the Great Mission possible.
